Meal Planning

Meal Planning Top Tips!

Think of 4-5 meals that the person you support would enjoy this week.

There’s no need to plan every meal for the week! Planning 4-5 meals gives plenty of flexibility and allows the person supported to enjoy any leftovers they may have.

See what is already in the kitchen

Encourage the person you support to check their fridge, freezer and cupboards for ingredients that could inspire a meal. Knowing what they have helps them know what to buy!

Plan meals that include some similar ingredients

When planning for the week ahead, consider different meals that use the same ingredients. This helps ensure that all fresh food is used before it goes. For example, think about how many different things can be made with mince, onions and tins of tomatoes!

Be smart with leftovers

If the person you support has leftovers, they can be used for lunch the next day or extra portions can be put in the freezer for another week.

Oliver’s Top Tip: Planning meals for the week ahead is a great way to save money. It means that you won’t buy more than you need and you only need to go to the shops once a week!
